Schools, education and childcare A new secondary school for central Manchester

Proposal for a new mainstream secondary school

This call out for Expressions of Interest is closed.

In order to meet growing demand for secondary school places in Manchester, we are seeking expressions of interest from DfE approved sponsors to run a new secondary school in central Manchester.  This is in line with the national process for establishing new schools.

A brand new purpose built 8FE (1,200 place) secondary school located on the Lytham Road site, Rusholme, Manchester will be built using basic need funding.  The new school is proposed to open in temporary accommodation for September 2016 and then in a permanent building from September 2017 with a year 7 and the year 8 intake.

We would welcome interest from any school or interested party with a track record of delivering the very highest standards education that would consider being part of this exciting new venture.

Manchester is a rapidly growing, thriving and vibrant city.  Effective schools with high quality teaching and leadership are keys to achieving our ambitious vision for the city and the trajectory of improvement across our family of schools is a positive one.  This is an opportunity to become part of Manchester's family of schools and develop a new school located on a key arterial route for the city, within a culturally diverse community where there are significant plans for regeneration and high demand for school places.  Links between the new school and local businesses will be very important in supporting the skills need in the city.

We would like all interested providers to download and complete the application form.  All applications should be sent to pass@manchester.gov.uk with annexes attached if appropriate, and received by 5:00pm on Thursday, 31 December 2015.

The outcome from the assessment will be sent to the Regional Schools Commissioner on 25 January 2016 who will make the decision (on behalf of the Secretary of State) on the school’s sponsor.
