Manchester's favourite day of the year is set to be even bigger and better this summer with a brand-new format for 2023 transforming it into a day-til-dusk celebration of all things Manchester on Saturday 29 July.

More than a decade on from Manchester Day's very first outing in 2010, there will now be literally more hours in the day for families to enjoy the city's favourite free day out, with events being planned from 12 noon to 9 pm throughout the city centre.

The Council is working with creative partners including Walk the Plank and Global Grooves on finalising the programme for a jam-packed fun-filled day that comes amidst a world-class summer in Manchester that is literally crammed full of cultural events and activities.

The city's streets and squares will come to life with all kinds of unexpected things to see and do, and with roads closed to create more space for families to roam safely and enjoy what's on offer.

With live music, pop-up performances, have-a-go activities, art installations, crafts, a Manchester market, food and drink, and surprises on every street corner, there will be something for families and people of all ages to enjoy and get involved with.

The event, which promises to be a great start to the school summer holidays, will for the first time, instead of including a parade, be extending its hours until well into the evening with a special night city celebration, filled with music and more.

Councillor Pat Karney, city centre spokesperson, Manchester City Council, said: "Everyone knows how much we love doing things differently here in Manchester, and after more than a decade of Manchester Days we've decided it's time to do just that and also showcase our famous Manchester nights.

"And so on Manchester Day this year - for the very first time - we're really excited to be bringing a special night city celebration to our streets and squares to round off what is set to be a fabulous day-long celebration of everything that is great about Manchester.

"It's going to be brilliant, a show-stopping finale to an amazing day and you won't want to miss it!"
