For one day (29 July), as part of the famous Manchester Day celebrations, Deansgate will be transformed into a dazzling seaside haven in less than a month.

The city’s famous and well-loved Manchester Day celebrations are back for 2023, this year called Manchester Day on Holiday. The event – which will take place in less than a month on Saturday 29 July- promises to bring the charming holiday vibes to the heart of Manchester and, will be offering up first-class events for Mancunians of all ages to enjoy.

Summer is the season when Mancunians look forward to sunning themselves on beaches around the world, but for one day only, Deansgate will become the seaside destination of choice as part of Manchester Day on Holiday. It will host a jam-packed day of fun from 9am – 6pm and will be open for all residents this Manchester Day on Holiday.

Complete with a traditional helter skelter, cabin crew performances and sand sculptures, fun seekers are encouraged to break out their deckchairs and head on down to the city centre on the 29 July, where they’ll be transported to a vibrant seaside without having to leave the M60.

Deansgate’s celebrations will also feature live performances on the main stage from a number of groovy and upbeat local artists- perfect for an afternoon boogie.

The Council are once again working with Creative Partner, Walk the Plank, to put a new spin on everyone’s favourite Manchester Day celebrations, instead of hosting a traditional parade, fun seekers will be able to enjoy activities, entertainment, music and dance in different sites across the city centre. The city centre will come to life between 12 noon and 9pm with all kinds of unexpected things to see and do, more information to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said:

Mark the day in your calendars and get ready for Manchester to be the number one holiday destination on the 29th July.  People always say that the only thing Manchester doesn't have is a beach, well, not for long!

“The seaside in the city centre is one of the many new and unexpected events that we will be organising this year. We can’t wait to reveal what else we’ve got planned, keep your eyes peeled!”
