Manchester Day on Holiday celebrations will take place in the city centre on Saturday 29 July, and as part of this year’s extravaganza an interactive zoo will take over New Cathedral Street.

The city’s famous and well-loved Manchester Day celebrations are back for 2023, this year called Manchester Day on Holiday. The event will take place in less than a month on Saturday 29 July and exclusive for this year, explorers of all ages will be welcomed to the animal kingdom On New Cathedral Street.

Complete with lions, orangutans,  kangaroos and even a hippopotamus, performers and street artists will transform New Cathedral Street into a jungle safari. Families and fun seekers of all ages will have the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with jungle animals and creatures alike as they enjoy the immersive performances on New Cathedral Street from 12-6pm on 29 July.

Residents are welcomed by the Council to visit the mesmerising tropical rainforest in New Cathedral Street and enjoy the engrossing activities taking place in sites across the city centre such as a seaside on Deansgate for Manchester Day on Holiday. More details to be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Council are once again working with Creative Partner, Walk the Plank, to put a new spin on everyone’s favourite Manchester Day celebrations, instead of hosting a traditional parade, fun seekers will be able to enjoy activities, entertainment, music and dance in different sites across the city centre.

The city centre will come to life between 12 noon and 9pm with all kinds of unexpected things to see and do, more information to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said: “With Manchester Day on Holiday approaching we’re so excited to start telling people what we’ve been planning.

“People will be able to have an afternoon of roarsome fun in St Ann’s Square with the whole square becoming a zoo for the day. But don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for what else we’ve got planned for Manchester Day on Holiday- don’t miss out on a wild time!”
