Manchester City Council has paid tribute to its older residents on the UN International Day for Older People.

Councillor Thomas Robinson, Executive Member for Healthy Manchester and Social Care said: "Today, on UN International Day of Older People, we celebrate the Importance of our older residents in Manchester.

"To be a Mancunian is to have older people at the heart of our communities, they define so much of who we are as a people and remind us just who we are as a city. They are the anchor in our neighbourhoods and the social consciousness which always pushes Manchester to grow in the right way.

"To that end we are so proud of our work to make Manchester an Age Friendly City, and are excited to build on this achievement over the coming months. Through this we will continue to recognise and value the essential social contribution of older people to all of our communities and neighbourhoods throughout Manchester as a whole."
