Leader of Manchester City Council Bev Craig's statement on a flood warning being issued in Didsbury.
Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council said: “Following the awful flooding which took place earlier this week the Council has been in constant contact with our partners including the Police, Fire Service as well as the Environment Agency to ensure that residents in flood-affected areas have the support they need.
“While water levels of the River Mersey have dropped since their peak on January 1, the return of heavy rain today combined with melting snow has seen levels rise once more. This has resulted in a flood warning being issued for some properties in the Palatine Road area in Didsbury and some surrounding areas.
“Although there are no evacuation orders currently in place, staff from the Environment Agency, Council, Police and Fire Service have been out tonight knocking on doors to make sure residents are aware that a flood warning is in place.
“Although we have been advised by the Environment Agency that the risk of flooding is low, potentially affected areas are being closely monitored overnight. Residents in impacted properties will be contacted directly if the situation does get worse.
“While there are far fewer properties at risk of flooding compared to earlier this week, we want to make sure that any affected residents are given as much warning as possible and know where support is available should they need it.
"I would like to thank our emergency services colleagues - alongside Council staff - for their efforts tonight as they work to keep Manchester residents safe."
