'Histories, stories, voices': consultation into artworks in public spaces
This consultation has now closed.
The monuments, statues, memorials, plaques and place names in our public spaces often go unnoticed, but they can play an enormous part in giving us inspiration, identity, shared values and positive role models.
Many of these objects and spaces are named after people or events of historical significance, but do they tell the complete story of Manchester’s history and the diverse communities that have made the city what it is today? Is your story being shared?
We are reviewing what’s in our public spaces and how it gets there - now and in the future, so that Manchester’s history is celebrated and commemorated in the most appropriate way.

As part of this we would like to find out what you think about who or what is represented in the public spaces of Manchester, including our streets, squares, forecourts, parks and other open or indoor public spaces that members of the public can access.
We’ll use your answers to this short survey as part of our review and future approach.

Online public discussion workshops
Two public discussion workshops will take place on Zoom, facilitated by Manchester Histories. Each will include a panel of speakers, including special guests.
Participants will take part in small group discussions in breakout rooms. After this everyone will come back together and feedback their ideas in a final discussion.
There will be further opportunity to respond to points being made via the online chat facility.
All discussions and points of view expressed will be recorded as a part of the consultation process.
