Manchester partners with Royal British Legion to honour Armed Forces

Manchester City Council has launched a new three-year partnership with The Royal British Legion to honour the UK’s Armed Forces and veterans.

What’s happening?

  • Events across the city all year round – including Remembrance SundayArmistice Day, and community activities
  • Large poppies displayed in key locations
  • Poppies for sale in parks, cafés and libraries
  • Schools and community groups invited to take part

This partnership helps us remember the sacrifices made by service personnel – including veterans from African, Caribbean and South Asian communities – and supports those still serving today.

Support for local events

We’re offering funding through the Neighbourhood Investment Fund to help communities run their own Remembrance and Armistice Day events.

Remembrance Sunday

Join us on Sunday 9 November in St Peter’s Square for Manchester’s annual Remembrance event. Search for War memorials in Manchester
Other activities will take place in parks, cemeteries, libraries and schools across the city.

Looking ahead

In June 2026, Manchester will celebrate Armed Forces Day with community events, education activities, and ways for residents to show their support.
