Manchester City Council

The Council and democracy Standing as a candidate

When you become a candidate

Once your nomination is formally accepted, there are rules that apply to:

  • you
  • your agent; and
  • anyone working on your behalf.

The Electoral Commission provides guidance for candidates and agents for all elections. It includes information on:

  • campaigning
  • spending
  • imprints
  • access to properties, and
  • working with residents.

You should read this guidance as early as possible.

Read the guidance on the Electoral Commission website.

Access to managed properties

Access to some buildings is controlled by the organisation that manages them.

Candidates and agents should contact us about any difficulties with managed properties.

If you or your agent have problems with:

  • getting access
  • local management arrangements
  • anything that affects your ability to speak to residents in the property
  • any other issues related to managed properties

contact us as soon as possible: email esu@manchester.gov.uk.

We will give you advice and help resolve the issue if we can.
