In Manchester, fewer people in 2021 considered themselves in bad or very bad health than in 2011 (2,712 fewer).

Across both censuses, the proportion of those not limited day-to-day by a long-term health condition remained the same at 82% of the population. Between 2011 and 2021 the proportion of those whose day-to-day is limited a lot decreased from 9% to 8%, and those limited a little increased from 8% to 9%.

The number of people providing hours per week of unpaid care decreased between censuses by 4,426 people.

The proportion of household members with a disability has stayed largely unchanged between censuses with 66% having no disability, 26% with 1 person with a disability, and 7% with 2 or more people with a disability.

Census 2021 was undertaken during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which may also have influenced how people perceive their health status and activity limitations and therefore may affect how people chose to respond.
