Trees
The plans for Albert Square include a number of new trees. Four of the existing large plane trees (Platanus acerifolia) will also be kept.
In February 2024 we completed the first phase of the Albert Square planting. A series of photographs is included in this album on flickr.com.
Open the album of pictures from the tree planting on flickr.com for images and captions.
There will be a further six trees in beds - or 'soft landscape' - near the fountain, and five new trees will be planted along the side of the Town Hall on Princess Street.
The new trees will be:

- 2 x Sophora japonica (Japanese Pagoda tree)
- 7 x Liriodendron tulipifera (Tulip tree)
- 1 x Nyssa sylvatica (Black Tupelo)
- 1 x Catalpa bignonioides (Indian Bean tree)
- 2 x Prunus yedoensis (Yoshino Cherry)
- 2 x Amelanchier arborea ‘Robin Hill’ (Snowy Mespilus / Juneberry)
- 1 x Davidia involucrata (Handkerchief tree)
- 5 x Liriodendron tulipifera ‘fastigiata’ (Fastigiate Tulip tree)
