Report a taxi accident

If you have had an accident and the hackney carriage or private hire vehicle is damaged that affects the safety, performance or appearance of the vehicle then this must be reported to us, using this form.

The owner of the hackney carriage or private hire vehicle licensed by us must report the accident. This should be done as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case within 72 hours.

Within this process the following items must upload with your form:

  • a valid certificate of insurance or cover note relating to the vehicle;
  • photos of the damage to the vehicle (up to 4); and
  • if you are injured in the accident you will be required to provide written evidence from your GP that you are fit to drive (if applicable).

The vehicle is likely to need a vehicle accident inspection at the garage, to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and meets the Manchester City Council vehicle standards, there will be a charge for this test. You will receive a letter (via email), from us with information about this.

An Insurance Company or other Legal Body can contact us for information relating to this accident (following a claim), a copy of this report will be provided to them.

If you have had an accident you must still renew your licence prior to the date of expiry; a new application will need to be submitted if your licence has expired (*except in the case of hackney carriage vehicle proprietor licence). *A new application for a hackney carriage vehicle proprietor licence cannot be submitted.

If you have a test booked in and your vehicle will not be ready, please ring the contact centre on 0161 234 5004 to reschedule your test so that you do not lose the fee and have to pay again.
