Report a Notice to a Coroner of intention to remove a body from England

The body of a deceased person must not be removed out of England or Wales until:

  • notice has been given to the coroner in the jurisdiction where the body is lying
  • five clear days have elapsed after giving notice of removal

The notice to the coroner must be given by completing this form.

If the coroner is satisfied that there is no need for further enquiries concerning the death, the body may be removed at any time after receipt of the coroner's findings.

In any case of urgency, it may be possible to remove the body earlier if the applicant contacts the coroner in person and the coroner is satisfied with the information given that no further enquiries are necessary.

Any person contravening these requirements is liable to prosecution.
