Business Rates

About Business Rates

Businesses and other organisations that occupy non-domestic premises pay Business Rates to help fund local services, for example police and firefighting.

If you use a building or part of a building for business, you will probably have to pay Business Rates.

It is calculated by multiplying the rateable value of an individual property by the national non-domestic multiplier. The result of this calculation is the amount of rates payable for the year.

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) (external site) assesses the rateable values and the multiplier is set by the Department for Communities and Local Government (external site).
