Gorton and Abbey Hey

  1. Clean, green and safer neighbourhoods make our city attractive. They help us feel better and safer where we live, work, study and visit.

    These are the projects that have been funded by the Clean and Green investment in your neighbourhood so far. The 'completed' projects were finished in 2024 and 2025. The 'in delivery' projects are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

    Completed projects

    Abbey Hey Lane – pedestrian safety

    Bollards have been installed to protect the footway.

    Agnew Road – accessibility and refuse collection

    A dropped kerb and bollards have been installed to improve access and support waste collections.

    Alston Road – pedestrian safety and alleyway resurfacing

    Bollards have been installed and an alleyway was cleared from vegetation and resurfaced to improve safety in Summer 2025.

    Chatsworth Road / Hyde Road – junction safety

    Bollards have been introduced and yellow lines refreshed to improve traffic management.

    Friendship Garden – traffic management

    Bollards have been installed to protect the space and manage vehicle access.

    Garlick Street – improved access to shops

    Double yellow lines outside shops have been shortened to improve short‑stay access.

    Great Jones Street – traffic management

    Bollards have been installed to deter inappropriate vehicle movements.

    Highbank Bowling Club – pathway resurfacing

    Footpaths have been resurfaced to improve access for visitors. Completed October 2025.

    Lees Street – pedestrian safety

    Bollards and an H‑bar are being installed outside an assisted living facility to protect access.

    Wellington Street / Garratt Way – junction safety

    Bollards have been installed at the junction to protect pedestrians.

    Bins

    All on-street bins across the ward have been replaced as part of the August 2024 to August 2025 programme, and park bins in disrepair are replaced in Debdale Park, Gorton Park, King George V Park and Vine Street Community Park in Winter 2025.     Projects in delivery

    Underwood Close and Wall Way – litter bins

    New litter bins will be installed at two locations.

    Play area improvements

    Improvement works are completed in Vine Street Park and Dedbale Park, and scheduled for Gorton Park. Find out more about the play area and planned improvements.
