  1. Clean, green and safer neighbourhoods make our city attractive. They help us feel better and safer where we live, work, study and visit.

    These are the projects that have been funded by the Clean and Green investment in your neighbourhood so far. The 'completed' projects were finished in 2024 and 2025. The 'in delivery' projects are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

    Completed projects

    Brookdale Park – football facilities

    New goalposts have been installed so the pitch can be used by local clubs.

    School safety – road safety signs

    Signs have been purchased and delivered to Briscoe Lane, Park View and Orchard House schools to be used during pick up and drop off time to encourage safer parking during these times.

    Orford Road Sports Area

    Damaged surfacing caused by vandalism has been repaired to ensure the sports area remains safe and accessible for residents.

    Brookdale Park – Nutmeg gaming area

    Vandalised surfacing within the Nutmeg gaming area has been repaired, making the space safer and more usable for children and young people.

    Bins

    All on-street bins across the ward have been replaced as part of the August 2024 to August 2025 programme, and park bins in disrepair were replaced in Gaskell Street Park, Orford Road Playing Fields and Brookdale Park. Find our more about bin installation and the efforts to fight litter.

    Projects in delivery

    Orford Road – multiple works

    A new welcome sign and noticeboard are being installed to make the playing fields more inviting.

    A replacement fenceline is being installed to remove unsafe, unsightly fencing.

    Scotland Hall Road – traffic calming

    A traffic calming scheme will be introduced to reduce speeding cars and improve road safety.

    Douro Street – multiple works

    • A continuous fence line will be installed on the boundary of the adjacent green space to create a safety barrier from neighbouring roads
    • Play area is being redesigned to update outdated equipment, repair surfaced and enhance play value to improve safety and accessibility for children’s play activities.

    Mellor Street – bollards

    Bollards will be installed to prevent illicit parking.

    Play area improvements

    Improvement works are scheduled for Gaskell Street Junior and Scotland Hall Road. Find out more about the play area and planned improvements.
