Proclamation

The Proclamation took place in St Peter’s Square, at 1pm on Sunday 11 September in front of Central Library. 

The event was the formal county Proclamation to the people of Greater Manchester of the beginning of His Majesty King Charles III’s reign and followed Proclamations to the people of London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast which took place earlier. 

Lord Mayor of Manchester Cllr Donna Ludford and Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Diane Hawkins gave introductory addresses before High Sherriff of Greater Manchester Lorraine Worsley-Carter MBE read the Greater Manchester Proclamation. The mayors of the other nine Greater Manchester local authorities,  were in attendance, and given copies of the Proclamation to read in their own areas afterwards. 

Royal visit Thursday 15 September

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Sophie, Countess of Wessex visited Manchester on Thursday 15 September.

They arrived late morning at Central Library to sign The Queen's Books of Condolence. Then carried on to St Ann's Square to see the tributes left by the public.

They ended their visit at Manchester Cathedral viewing their Books of Condolence and lighting a candle in memory of Her Majesty The Queen.
