What funded childcare covers

Funded childcare means that your child will be looked after for a number of hours without you needing to pay.

The funding only covers the hours of childcare. This means some items and services are not covered by the funding. For example:

  • meals
  • snacks
  • nappies
  • sun cream
  • additional activities, such as trips etc.

Your childcare provider may implement charges to provide these for you. Alternatively, you may choose to provide some of these things yourself.

In addition to accessing funded hours you may also choose to purchase extra hours of childcare from your childcare provider.

You will need to discuss all these arrangements with your childcare provider.

You may be eligible for help to pay these childcare costs under the Tax Free Childcare and Universal Credit Childcare Schemes.
