Locating a grave

At the time of purchase a grave is given a reference number, which can help in locating a grave, although it can be difficult for owners to locate a grave unless it is marked in some way.  The best way of doing so is with a temporary grave marker or a permanent memorial.

To carry out a grave search you will need the full name of the deceased and the date of death.

For a small fee, you can make an online search of over 800,000 burial records dating back to 1837 for Manchester City Council's five cemeteries at  http://www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk/

You can also search in person at Manchester Central Library.
