Services at Central library

At Central Library, you can access computers with:

  • assistive technology;
  • large monitors;
  • adapted keyboards;
  • headphones;
  • scanners.

They are located on the second floor within the Information and Business Service.

We also offer services in addition to those already mentioned:

  • enlarge text and images in your book, letter, newspaper by magnifying the image onto a screen using the ClearView reader. The image can be adjusted to suit you either by magnification, colour combination or both;
  • read printed material using a scanning system, either on a stand-alone machine or on the computer and speech reader, using Kurzweil 1000 reading software.

Staff and volunteers are on hand to help.

Support from Henshaws

Henshaws charity supports visually impaired people to make informed choices about their future and take the next step towards employment and accessing new technology.

Staff from Henshaws are based on the second floor in Central Library, every Thursday and Friday from 10am until 4.30pm offering specialist support, technology assessments, demonstrations and training to people with sight loss, on an appointment basis.
