What are we doing?
We started looking at sustainable procurement (buying goods and services) in the 2000s. Today, we're leading procurement policy and practice. We work with the Centre for Local Economic Strategies to find new and better ways to maximise social value. And we focus on the benefits for people who live in Manchester.
We work with suppliers that deliver social and environmental value. We encourage them to change the way they work to deliver greater social benefits. This has created more jobs and spending in local areas. As well as more engagement with community initiatives.
Key findings for 2022/23

- 232,000 hours of support given to the voluntary and community sector
- 5,500 jobs created in Greater Manchester
- 1,100 apprenticeships created in Greater Manchester
- 2,600 people in Greater Manchester (often facing the biggest barriers) given job opportunities to help them lead more fulfilling lives.
