Parking Rusholme and Moss Side Residents Parking Scheme

Open a larger version of the map

We wanted to tackle the parking problems in areas of Moss Side and Rusholme. In 2021 we asked residents and businesses if they would support a residents parking scheme, to prioritise people that live and work in the area.

Working on the comments and feedback we received from the consultation, the residents parking scheme is now live.

Parking restrictions

Remember that parking partially or fully on the footpath is not allowed at any time.

Restrictions came into force in January 2024.

Parking is restricted to permit holders only on some streets between certain times and on certain days. Permits are available free-of-charge for:

  • residents and their visitors
  • business owners
  • carers.

The restricted area is indicated by a sign on the entrance to the street, similar to that shown below. No parking bays are marked – this allows residents to arrange parking to best suit their street. Please refer to the sign to understand the restriction on each as times and days may vary. In the pictured example, a permit is needed to park beyond this sign on weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 10am and 6pm. Outside of the times indicated on the sign, there is no restriction on parking on these streets.

We have also provided parking bays on some streets, in which permit holders can park for an unlimited amount of time between certain times and on certain days. During these times, non-permit holders can park in these bays for the maximum duration indicated.

This is indicated by a sign beside the bay, similar to that shown below. Please refer to the sign to understand the restriction as times and days may vary – in this example, a permit is needed to park for longer than 3 hours between Mon-Fri 10am-6pm. Outside of the times indicated on the sign, there is no restriction on parking in these bays.

There are areas marked with double yellow lines (no waiting at any time). There are also white Access Highlight Markings, also known as H-Bars. These indicate where access should be kept clear, for example in front of private driveways, even if they are placed within a parking bay.

We will withdraw misused permits and may take further action.

Your resident or business permit is only valid for your vehicles’ registration number – it is not transferable. If you change your car, you must log in and change your vehicle's  details (you'll need to upload supporting evidence.) Visitor permit registration can be entered online, and changed as required.

Deliveries

You don't need a permit for normal loading and unloading taking up to 45 minutes. But deliverers must then move on if they don't have a visitor permit.
