Roads and transport Northeast Gateway walking and cycling route improvements

Traffic management and working patterns

Phase 2 works

The traffic management for the ongoing work on Phase 2 of the Northeast Gateway scheme currently consists of:

  • Closure of the existing bus lane on Oldham Road (southbound towards the City Centre)
  • Closure of the parking bays between Poland Street and Cornell Street
  • Closure of Sherratt Street with the Oldham Road junction
  • Working patterns will be:

Monday to Friday: 8am to 5pm

                    Saturday: 8am to 4pm

                    Sunday: 9.30am to 3.30pm

  • We expect this phase of the work to last until mid-July 2025.

  • Detail of further phases of work, including the changes to Thompson Street and Rochdale Road, will be added to the website as soon as dates are finalised.

From-mid July onwards

  • Temporary closure of a section of Sherrat Street, from 2 July until approximately the end of July. During this time, vehicles will not be able to turn onto Oldham Road from Sherrat Street.

  • Thompson Street (northeast and southeast) - mid-July until approximately the end of August. There will be lane closures on both sides of the carriageway, but two-way traffic will be maintained. Parking bays will be suspended, and bus stops will be relocated. Some overnight total closures will be required for resurfacing.
