Ben Street, Clayton and Openshaw
Outcome
We held a ten week consultation from 21 June to 29 August 2021 to find out what good housing means to local people. This information was used to decide if we need a selective licensing scheme in Clayton and Openshaw. Read more about selective licensing
You can find out more about the background to the proposals by reading the Executive and Scrutiny Committee minutes by using the following links:

- Economy Scrutiny Committee meeting on 9.12.21, Item 61
After reviewing comments from landlords and residents, we have decided to formally designate a selective licensing area around Ben Street, Clayton and Openshaw. This means that landlords and managing agents in specific parts of Clayton and Openshaw will need a licence to rent out a home. If you are a landlord in the area, you have up to 1 May 2022 to apply for a licence.
The scheme aims to improve management standards and conditions of private rented housing and support the reduction of antisocial behaviour. For now, we are focusing on a small part of Clayton and Openshaw, covering an area of around 105 private sector homes
