Consultations and surveys Eastlands Residents Parking Scheme consultation

Consultation update

In March and April of 2022, we asked local people what they thought about proposals to change the existing parking scheme near the Etihad Campus to a new Eastlands Resident Parking Scheme (RPS).

The proposed changes have been designed to support the community by allowing residents to park close to their home, improve traffic flow, road safety and the appearance of streets affected by high levels of on-street parking, which residents asked to be improved before the new arena opens in 2023, bringing more jobs and visitors to the area.

The new scheme looks to:

  • Expand the area that the existing Etihad Resident Parking Scheme covers so that it includes some areas which are currently missing from the existing Scheme but are within walking distance of the Etihad Campus.
  • Change the scheme so that it operates every day from midday to 11pm, rather than on event days only. This is because events at the Co-op Live Arena can take place on any day of the week, which would make an event-day only scheme impractical for local communities.

More than 250 people responded to the consultation and among the responses there were five clear themes:

  • The number of parking permits available, particularly for visitors (people wanted more).
  • Parking for community uses (i.e. staff and service providers for local schools, sure start and library).
  • The online system to apply for e-permits (making it straightforward and having an alternative for people who are not online).
  • The hours of operation of the scheme, and
  • The scheme boundary (and whether it could or should be expanded).

We know that these themes are important to residents, and we'll take as much of this onboard as possible.

Early in 2023 we will move into the legal Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process, which gives you a chance to see the new scheme in full and to comment to object if you wish to do so. Once through this stage we will update you on the outcomes and next steps.

This consultation has now closed and proposals have changed in line with the new city wide parking policy. See the updated plans
