What is Channel

Channel helps people who may be at risk of being drawn into terrorism. 

What Channel does

The support service: 

  • Finds people who may be at risk.
  • Looks at how serious the risk is.
  • Offers a support plan that fits the person’s needs.

It works to stop problems early. It looks at all types of extremism.

Who Channel works with 

Channel works with: 

  • Local councils
  • Services for adults and children
  • Schools and colleges
  • Health services
  • Police
  • Probation services
  • Local communities.

Channel is your choice 

Channel is voluntary. This means a person who has been referred to the service must give their consent. Support can only happen once the individual accepts the referral.  

Channel in Greater Manchester 

In Greater Manchester, Channel is part of our safeguarding work. This means:

  • it follows the same rules we use to protect adults and children
  • it uses laws like the Care Act 2014
  • tt follows the Working Together to Safeguard Children and Making Safeguard Personal guides.
