Crime, antisocial behaviour and nuisance Prevent

Making a Prevent referral

If you're worried someone might be at risk of radicalisation, you can make a referral to Prevent.

How to make a referral

Use the Manchester National Prevent referral form.

What happens after you send a referral?

Once you send the form:

  • Counter Terrorism Policing Northwest (CTPNW) checks for Prevent concerns.
  • The Council checks for other safety concerns. We don’t wait for the police to finish before we act.

What could happen next?

There are three possible outcomes:

  • Closed to Prevent - No action is needed. We may pass the concern to another service that can help.
  • Managed by CTPNW - The police will take over if they think it’s not right for multi-agency support.
  • Referred to Channel - The person will get help from different services working together.

Who can make a referral?

  • Anyone can make a referral - you don’t have to be a professional.
  • You don’t need permission from the person you're worried about.
  • If they need help from Channel, they’ll be asked to agree to it.

If you are family member or a friend, visit the ACT Early website for advice and support.

Report a complaint about Prevent

If you think Prevent has been used in the wrong way, you can make a complaint.

The Standards and Compliance Unit (StaCU) looks into complaints. Anyone can use this form where you’re a member of the public or professional.
