Our Town Hall apprentices 2018-2020

Our most recent mFutures apprenticeship graduates, Abdul and Matt, joined the Our Town Hall Project team as an additional intake in 2018, with Mace and Purcell respectively.

Abdul made an immediate impact with his professional approach, and won Apprentice of the Year in the 2019 Greater Manchester Building of the Year awards, part of the GM Chamber Property and Construction Awards.

We spoke to Matt to ask him how he came to the scheme:

“In early 2018, I was finishing off two years of study in building services at college, and while that had broadened my understanding of construction, I still had no clue what I wanted to do as a career in the industry. I didn’t want to go to university not knowing what I ultimately wanted to do, so I started searching for apprenticeship opportunities in Manchester.

When I was told that I’d been accepted as an OTH MFutures apprentice I was over the moon, because I knew I had just got onto one of the best apprenticeship schemes in the north, plus it was the best fit for me as it provides me with the skills I want without having to narrow my career options.

I had never actually been inside the Town Hall so the interior was completely new to me, which I think, in hindsight, has been a blessing. I’ve been able to appreciate the design of the building for the first time, alongside experts in building design and heritage, who give me the history and stories behind the features. I feel extremely lucky to be here on the project, and luckier still to have been doing so while studying a course I enjoy."
