The Council and democracy Northern Quarter closures and traffic-flow changes

Tariff Street

From 24 January, work is starting on Tariff Street to create a widened footway, ahead of the construction of loading bays for local businesses on Tariff Street and Dale Street.

Following discussions with local businesses about the provision of loading bays on Tariff Street between Dale Street and Hilton Street, a requested has been made that the proposed loading bay near to Dale Street is removed in favour of a more open streetscape, and that a loading area is instead provided nearer to Hilton Street, replacing the current proposal for this location of two Pay and Display parking bays.

This would still mean building a widened footway area halfway along Tariff Street, with some trees planted. However depending on what feedback we receive about these proposals, we would then make one end a loading bay, and either retain two Pay and Display parking bays as previously proposed or provide additional space for footway/to use for tables and chairs space.

An additional loading bay is also located on Dale Street just to the west of Tariff Street.

Should the revised proposal be supported the proposed loading bay will be provided at the Hilton Street end of Tariff Street, leaving the space nearest to Dale Street available for other used as suggested above such as space for tables and chairs provision.
