Manchester to Chorlton Cycle Way
The Manchester to Chorlton Cycle Way is Manchester’s flagship cycle route. This 5km protected cycleway, built with TfGM, is part of the Bee Network. It was partly funded by the Greater Manchester Growth Deal. It will take you from the Chester Road roundabout in the city centre, right through the heart of Chorlton.
The cycle way has two main features:
- It has fully segregated cycle tracks in both directions. These are kerbed routes that separate cycles from motorised traffic.
- It has several CYCLOPS junctions (Cycle Optimised Protected Signals). They protect cyclists from motor traffic. They also let everyone use the junction safely. These appear at the junctions of:
- Chorlton Road and Royce Road
- Chorlton Road and Stretford Road
- Brooks Bar
- Upper Chorlton Road and Seymour Grove
- Four Banks
- Barlow Moor Road and Sandy Lane
We've added features along the route to ensure it is safe for all users:
- access to off-street parking
- cycle bypasses at existing bus stops, where possible
- tightened side-road junctions to reduce speeds
- traffic-calming speed tables at existing traffic island locations
- cycle lanes at the rear of existing parking bays
- new parking restrictions to keep cycle lanes clear of parked vehicles.
