Prestwich Cycleway

Starting on the Prestwich side of Heaton Park, this route goes through the park then creates new links to the city centre through Blackley, Crumpsall and the Irk Valley. A link to Alan Turing Way would feed to an existing, largely traffic-free orbital cycle route.

1. Through Heaton Park
   We'd put direction signs for cyclists through the park and have more cycle parking at key places.

2. Heaton Park to Victoria Avenue
   We would add 'advance stop lines' at Heaton Park Road West junction with Middleton Road. A cycle-only connection would lead into Heaton Park Road, with a reduced speed limit of 20mph creating a quiet route to Victoria Avenue.

3. Victoria Avenue
   We plan to upgrade the signal-controlled crossings at Heaton Park Road and Tweedle
   Hill Road so pedestrians and cyclists are safer on these busy roads. Where suitable, between these two crossings we would separate the cycle lane from traffic with 'armadillo-type' segregation.

4. Victoria Avenue to Old Market Street
   We propose making a quiet 20mph route from Victoria Avenue along Crab Lane to Chapel Lane, with a new toucan crossing on Old Market Street outside Pike Fold Primary School.

5. Old Market Street to Queens Road
   We would create a quiet 20mph route from Old Market Street to Factory Lane, leading to a new, off-road, all-weather pathway along the Irk Valley between Factory Lane and Kingsbridge Road.

6. Queens Park towards Oldham Road
   We would re-mark and extend the existing on-road cycle lanes and create new off-road sections where necessary to provide a dedicated cycle route along Queens Road to Alan Turing Way.
