Things we buy, use and throw away

The things we buy, use and throw away have a big impact on the environment. They can account for up to 40% of a person’s carbon footprint. If we buy less – and reuse and recycle more – emissions will reduce.

We've committed to stop using avoidable single-use plastics in our buildings and services. Manchester is now a Refill Destination. And we want to help other organisations to take action too. 

Our aims:

  • To share recycling information and advice across the city
  • To ensure our events and activities minimise use of single-use plastics
  • To promote the benefits of reusing and repairing
  • To encourage people to buy local
