Installing EV Chargers
You may be able to install a home charger even if you do not have off-street parking, if you:
- can safely charge when parked on the street, read the guidance on safe on-street parking;
- have planning permission.
You do not need planning permission to install a EV charger if all of the following criteria is met:
- Lawful, off-street parking within the boundary of your private property.
- Your house is not a Listed Building.
- The charger unit does not exceed 0.2 cubic meters in size.
If you do not have lawful off-street parking, planning permission is required to install an EV.

Grants
You might be able to get a grant towards the cost of installing a charger at your home. Find out more about:

If you're a business, charity or public sector organisation you may be eligible for a grant. It would contribute to the up-front costs of a charge point. Find out more about the workplace charging scheme which is due to close March 2026.
