Installing EV Chargers

You may be able to install a home charger even if you do not have off-street parking, if you:

You do not need planning permission to install a EV charger if all of the following criteria is met:

  • Lawful, off-street parking within the boundary of your private property.
  • Your house is not a Listed Building.
  • The charger unit does not exceed 0.2 cubic meters in size.

If you do not have lawful off-street parking, planning permission is required to install an EV.

If you're a business, charity or public sector organisation you may be eligible for a grant. It would contribute to the up-front costs of a charge point. Find out more about the workplace charging scheme which is due to close March 2026.
