Civic Quarter Heat Network
We're working with Vital Energi to create the Civic Quarter Heat Network.
It provides highly efficient, environmentally-friendly heat and power for some of Manchester’s most iconic buildings.
The first buildings to connect to the network are:
- Town Hall
- Town Hall Extension and Central Library
- Manchester Central Convention Centre
- The Bridgewater Hall
- Heron House
Underground pipes and cables deliver heat, hot water and power to connected buildings. The network brings significant carbon reductions. And it's one of the most cost-effective ways of reducing carbon emissions from heating.
An energy centre, near Manchester Central Convention Centre, generates heat for the network. Flues from the energy centre form an impressive 'Tower of Light' designed by Tonkin Liu. Its innovative design provides a new sculptural landmark for the city.
The network is designed for future expansion. And efficiency and carbon savings will increase as more buildings join.
