Children's Services

  • Budget this year: £159.844 million (net).
  • £7.993million savings options from Children’s Services over 3 years.

How we spend this budget

Our Children and Education services have a social care budget for young people who need help, support, and protection – and an education budget to make sure all our children have high-quality education and learning. It also supports some families early, to stop them needing further help later.

57% of this social care element meets the costs of children in care. The rest supports children leaving care and pays for things such as Early Years, Early Help and Youth Justice.

Our education budgets mostly go directly to schools and also cover school admissions, place planning, home to school transport and school crossings. There are extra services for children with special educational needs and disabilities such as short breaks, school attendance and education psychology.

See further information on the options for savings in Children’s and Education budgets over the next 3 years.
