Planning and regeneration Projects outside the city centre

Wythenshawe

Wythenshawe Civic Centre is a large district shopping centre. It’s well connected by public transport and serves a large local population. But it needs investment to fulfil its potential. And to make it fit for purpose for future generations. We bought the centre in 2022 to deliver the investment needed.

We consulted local people and businesses. Then created a development framework to guide the project. It looks at:

  • the Civic Centre

  • Wythenshawe Forum Leisure Centre

  • the transport interchange

  • surrounding buildings

  • car parks.

We plan to turn underused land and buildings into high-quality spaces for the public, events and retail. As well as creating more homes and jobs.

Our bid for Levelling Up Housing and Communities funding was successful. In November 2023, the Government confirmed that Wythenshawe will receive £20million of funding. This will kick-start key elements of the vision. These include new food retailers, public spaces, workspaces, enterprise centre and cultural hub.
