Objective 3 – Delivering inclusive and accessible services
We provide key services to people living in Manchester. Parks, social care, education or pest control – they all have a role in making the city more equal and welcoming. So, it’s vital they're accessible and inclusive. That's also true for the services we procure.
We'll think about where, when and how we deliver services. So we meet the needs of our diverse communities. We'll use data in a number of ways to inform our service design and delivery. We get our data from:
- insight from community engagement and involvement
- regular analysis of our Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs)
- monitoring the delivery and use of our services
This data will help us to redesign services to ensure better access. This includes people excluded digitally. And those with other specific access needs.
We have six aims that help to track our progress.
To focus on engagement and results
We'll use our new approach to Equality Impact Assessments. This will mean a new focus on community engagement and results. This is key to making significant changes to services, policies or strategies.
To develop and embed Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs)
We'll improve the way we develop and embed Equality Impact Assessments. This will ensure that robust analysis informs procurement and investment. It will apply to any new or redesigned services too.
To ensure services are accessible
Equality Impact Assessment data will help us to design and deliver accessible services. And we'll use insights from community engagement too. We'll focus on communities that are less likely to access our services.
To improve how we use data
We'll work to meet the advice of the UK Statistics Authority. That means we must improve how we collect, analyse and apply data that relates to equalities. It'll help to show where action is needed most. This is vital in key service areas that impact disadvantaged communities. We’ll also use data better to improve services for people facing multiple barriers.
To improve equality for children and young people
We'll develop ways for all young people to share their views. This will take in a broad range of issues, initiatives, service design and delivery. To do this, we'll ensure our ‘equal and included’ priority runs through everything we do to make ours a Unicef child-friendly city.
To improve equality in our workforce
We'll improve awareness and confidence in equity and inclusion throughout our workforce. To do this, we'll promote a range of educational initiatives and development programmes.
