Roads and transport Levenshulme and Burnage Active Neighbourhood Scheme Updates

April 2023

Manor Road -The legal consultation around the Traffic Regulation Order to put filters in revised locations at Manor Road is now complete. Some objections were received, but after careful consideration of these, alongside the feedback received from others around the new location, and a review by the Executive Member for Environment and Transport and the Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods, the proposed filter locations have been approved to be implemented, creating a traffic free area which joins Greenbank Park and Greenbank Playing Fields.

Work to install the filters will start from Tuesday 11 April 2023 and will take approximately 14 days, subject to weather or any unforeseen issues. The stretch of Manor Road between its junctions with Audley Road and Mount Road will be closed for the construction from Tuesday 11 April, and will remain permanently closed to through motorised traffic from that date (other than access to emergency and maintenance services).

Safe parking near filters - We have sent letters to properties close to the filters to assure them that we are taking actions to address the issue of vehicles parking and blocking filters, and to invite them to play their part by parking considerately and talking to their visitors about why it’s important to keep filters clear.

Our filters generally have one or more removable bollards so that emergency services can quickly access an incident by passing through them, and to facilitate other services like waste collection.

We are working with Neighbourhood colleagues, and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services and waste disposal partners to raise awareness locally of the importance of keeping filters unobstructed. Civil Enforcement Officers will shortly start to issue Penalty Charge Notices to vehicles which are parking irresponsibly.
