Green and circular economy
Our green and circular economy theme relates to the things and services we buy and provide.
The climate change action plan sets out how we'll use a circular-economy approach to reduce waste. And how we'll help the city to adopt a more circular approach. This will help to lower both our direct and indirect emissions. As well as those of the city.
The plan will also set out how we'll assess and lower our Scope 3 (indirect) emissions. These could be more than double the Council's carbon footprint.
These climate actions will bring wider benefits. As they support the growth of good green jobs for local people.
Our action will:
- influence the environmental practices of our suppliers
- maximise the positive environmental impact of social value and help others to do the same
- lower carbon emissions from our ICT systems and infrastructure
- quantify our Scope 3 emissions and find ways to lower them
- reduce our waste and increase reuse, repair, sharing and recycling
- reduce waste and increase reuse, repair, sharing and recycling across the city
- make it easier for people to recycle
- influence the move to more sustainable food systems in the city
- minimise the negative environmental impacts of our events and those held on our land
- help other businesses and organisations in the city to lower emissions
- promote green skills and jobs in the city
- promote fewer high-carbon and more low-carbon products and activities on our advertising screens
- make sure businesses know the climate risks, the benefits of action and how to get help
