Holt Town
Holt Town is a major regeneration project to create a new, eco-friendly neighbourhood. Our vision includes up to 4,500 new homes of different types and tenure and 30,000 square feet of workspace. With high-quality green spaces, a 1km play street, new local services, plus a cultural hub, lido and mobility hub.
Holt Town is located between Ancoats and New Islington, and Sportcity and the Etihad Campus. The River Medlock and the Ashton Canal run through the area.
Proposals for the area will focus on the needs and well-being of people. There will be an emphasis on low carbon development and active travel options. Such as walking, cycling, and public transport instead of cars.
In 2024, local people and businesses shared their opinions through online and in-person events. A workshop with local school students generated creative ideas for a community play area.
The consultation had 10,000 website visits and 411 responses, showing strong support for the neighbourhood plan. View the neighbourhood plan.
The Holt Town project includes:
- A new low-carbon neighbourhood with around 4,500 homes, across different building types including townhouses and some taller buildings.
- A mix of home prices to support an inclusive community - at least 20% being affordable, including social and council housing.
- 30,000 square feet of commercial space for shops and offices.
- 15 acres of green space, including improvements to the river and canal areas. Creating a new river park - a "confluence park."
- A layout that prioritises walking and cycling, with a 1km play link connecting two schools.
- Services like health and retail to support the community.
- Leisure and cultural spots, including a cultural hub and lido.
- Mobility Mill, a centralised parking hub surrounded by affordable workspaces and neighbourhood services.
- A digitally enabled neighbourhood with smart technology for local digital solutions and services.
The Neighbourhood Development Framework (NDF) was created by a team of consultants led by Studio Egret West. This document will help guide investment in Holt Town over the next 10 to 20 years.
