Afghan resettlement

Manchester City Council is working with the UK Government to support the Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP).

Afghan families are coming to the UK under three different legal categories:

  • British Nationals - Often the father is British, with an Afghan-born wife and children who have never lived in the UK.
  • Afghan Resettlement Programme -This scheme supports people who worked for the UK in Afghanistan, such as former local staff.

Manchester’s support

Manchester continues to welcome Afghan families. The Council helps with:

  • Getting support with learning English Language
  • Finding work and employment
  • Settling into the local communities and keeping good health, for example how to apply for school or college places for children, how to register with a Doctor (G.P), and Dentist.
