Planning and regeneration Ancoats

The Rodney Street project

The Rodney Street project, in Ancoats is ‘This City's’ first development. It's scheduled to begin in Summer 2023 and be delivered by Spring 2025.

Rodney Street will create 129 homes, ranging from 1-bedroom apartments to 4-bedroom townhouses, and 30% of the homes will be rented at the Manchester Living Rent which means these properties can be accessed by residents on housing benefit and therefore affordable to as many Manchester people as possible. The scheme will be delivered using low carbon and low energy design principles. These will reduce overall carbon emissions by 70% compared to an average UK building and reduce living costs for residents.

The Rodney Street development is an important part of the future transformation of Ancoats delivering 1,500 new homes and public green spaces. The site will border the newly developed Ancoats Green and Mobility Hub.

As part of this project, 54 Manchester people have been employed so far and apprentices have been offered more than 160 weeks of workplace opportunities to gain vital on-site experience.

The consultation for This City's first scheme on Rodney Street closed on 7 June 2022.

Rodney Street achieved planning consent in September 2022 (reference 134154/VO/2022).
