Planning and regeneration Ancoats

Jersey Street bridge removal

The Jersey Street Bridge demolition is the first project to be delivered as part of the Public Realm Strategy for Ancoats which seeks to create a coherent network of streets and public spaces, using green streets to encourage walking, wheeling and cycling.

The work to demolish the bridge is now complete and has included the demolition of a redundant, infilled former canal arm bridge to create level access to the Prussia Street Greenway which links Jersey Street to Ancoats Green and to the Rochdale canal.

Although the bridge demolition is completed, the road will remain closed in line with surrounding development works, and it is estimated that it will reopen after the final surface works in 2026
