Planning and regeneration Projects outside the city centre

Grey Mare Lane

An artist's representation of a brick built block of flats with cyclists and pedestrians passing by

The Grey Mare Lane estate is over 50 years old. We’re working to make it better as part of the East Manchester regeneration.

What’s happening?

We asked local people what they think. We now have a masterplan to guide future changes. Great Places Housing Group submitted plans to build 82 new social rent homes, which has now been approved. More plans and consultations are coming soon.

What’s next?

We’re planning big improvements, including:

New Homes

  • Up to 1,000 new homes
  • Many will be affordable
  • Built by Great Places, One Manchester, and This City.

Better Services

  • A new centre for the estate
  • Shops, health services, and community space.

Safer Streets

  • Better roads and pavements
  • New cycle lanes and walking routes
  • Greener streets and better drainage systems.

More Green Space

  • Parks with play equipment for all ages.

Safer streets for children

  • A play street near East Manchester Academy and St Brigid’s School.

Road Changes

  • Fewer lanes at the junction between Bell Crescent and Alan Turing Way
  • New access from Newcombe Close and Raglan Close.
